Michael Dowd & Connie Barlow

Michael Dowd is a veteran sustainability activist, outspoken religious naturalist, and big history evangelist. Uniquely gifted at helping religious people update their maps of reality by embracing scientific, historical, and cross-cultural evidence, Michael is passionate about sharing the 14-billion-year epic of cosmos, Earth, life, and humanity in ways that offer practical guidance and inspiration. His book, Thank God for Evolution: How the Marriage of Science and Religion Will Transform Your Life and Our World (Viking/Plume), was endorsed by 6 Nobel laureates and other science luminaries, including noted skeptics, and by religious leaders across the spectrum.

Connie Barlow is a gifted evolutionary educator, popular science writer, and developer of the leading epic of evolution / religious naturalism website,
TheGreatStory.organd YouTube channel: ghostsofevolution. Her books, Green Space, Green Time: The Way of Science (Copernicus); Evolution Extended: Biological Debates on the Meaning of Life (MIT Press); and From Gaia to Selfish Genes: Selected Writings in the Life Sciences (MIT Press), explore the nexus of science and inspiration.

Since 2002, Michael and Connie have traveled North America non-stop, speaking to secular and religious audiences of all ages and backgrounds. They have address more than 1,500 groups, ranging from Unitarian Universalists and secular college and university students, to Catholic, Protestant, and Evangelical Christian churches, to New Thought, New Age, and Integral groups. They show how the science-based history of everything and everyone (our common creation story) can be interpreted in ways that move people to cooperate across political and religious differences in service of a thriving future for all. They also show how an understanding of human nature given by evolutionary psychology and brain science can help each of us live with greater integrity, love, and zest for life.

Their latest big projects: "
Evolutionize Your Life" and "The Advent of Evolutionary Christianity".

Shane Dowd

Shane Dowd thinks that science and conscious evolution are nothing short of modern miracles. Possibly for the first time in human history, with the aid of global collective intelligence, we are able to imagine a future that inspires us (including a future self that we want to be) and consciously co-create that reality. Awesome!

As a fitness business owner and personal growth coach, Shane has studied the human body and human mind extensively, and uses that knowledge to empower and inform his clients and relationships. An avid reader and a workout enthusiast, Shane is always searching for the next insight or innovation that will help him evolve his life, business, and relationships (and those with whom he works).

Shane’s vision for the future is one where children and young people are taught about their biological, social, and interpretive instincts (effectively giving them an owner's manual to their own brain), and taught why (for very good evolutionary reasons) they think, feel, and act the way they do. Shane envisions all young people learning and practicing not only how to notice and assess troublesome flare-ups of instinctive urges and behaviors but also how to work toward self-correction and self-improvement with a deep appreciation for how those same inclinations had ensured the survival and reproduction of their very own ancestors.

On a never-ending quest to unlock the mystery of the human body and mind, you can probably find Shane “nerding out” — curled up on the couch on a Friday night, next to his lovely girlfriend, Meredith, reading a book on evolutionary psychology and enjoying a few grapes...that have been crushed, fermented, aged, and bottled for consumption.

Tom Atlee

Tom Atlee is founder, co-director, and research director of the non-profit Co-Intelligence Institute. From the mid-1990s through the mid-2000s, his work focused on developing a society's capacity to function as a wise democracy. Since 2005, his work has increasingly focused on the dynamics of conscious evolution -- in particular the conscious evolution of social systems. These intertwined undertakings are motivated by a desire to turn our social and environmental challenges into positive developments for our society.

Tom's social change vision is based on new understandings of wholeness which recognize the value of diversity, unity, relationship, context, uniqueness and the spirit inside each of us and the world. Co-intelligence is a form of intelligence grounded in that kind of wholeness. It has collaborative and collective dimensions, which we see clearly in higher forms of politics and governance. Co-intelligence theory also acknowledges many facets of intelligence (like head and heart), wisdom, and the higher forms of intelligence (natural and sacred) that move through and beyond us. Although Tom and the Institute focus on very practical issues of group, social and political dynamics, co-intelligence has many esoteric dimensions as well.

His work in conscious evolution has unfolded in close partnership with Peggy Holman, lead editor of The Change Handbook, and Michael Dowd, author of Thank God for Evolution! Tom collaborated with them on both books, on organizing a series of "evolutionary salons" and, along with Susan Cannon, on organizing a new nonprofit, Evolutionary Life. With Peggy he has undertaken intensive research on evolutionary dynamics that can guide the transformation of social systems (one key paper is here, others are here) and envisioning and building a movement for the conscious evolution of social systems. He is lead editor of the Evolutionary Life newsletter.

Jon Cleland Host

Jon Cleland Host has a Ph.D. in materials science from Northwestern University and has taught chemistry, physics and biology as an adjunct Professor at Saginaw Valley State University, while being a research scientist in the semiconductor/solar panel field with several patents and peer-reviewed publications.  His involvement in so many diverse scientific fields is both a cause and a result of his view that science is not a collection of separate, unrelated fields of study, but rather is simply the study of our awesome universe, an interconnected whole.  He sees the Great Story as centrally important in both unifying science as well as supplying real sources of meaning, purpose, and morality as our society moves into the 21st century.  As a father of three, much of his energy is focused on bringing a science based, spiritually uplifting culture into being, both for his own family and for the wider community of Earth.  This has resulted in a range of activities in support of the Great Story movement, his UU fellowship, science education, and most importantly, his family culture.
